ASEAN Large Nuclear and Synchrotron Facilities Network (ASEAN LNSN) Governing Council Meeting 2026

The ASEAN Large Nuclear and Synchrotron Facilities Network (ASEAN LNSN) held the Governing Council Meeting 2026 on 19 May 2026 from 10.00–11.00 hrs. (GMT+7) via Microsoft Teams. The meeting gathered representatives from ASEAN member countries to review the network’s activities conducted in 2025 and discuss future collaboration initiatives.

During the opening session, Dr. Supat Klinkhieo from Synchrotron Light Research Institute welcomed the participants and presented an overview of the ASEAN LNSN activities carried out in 2025, as well as the election process for the new Governing Council members for the 2026–2029 term. He emphasized the importance of strengthening regional cooperation in nuclear science and related technologies among ASEAN member countries.

The meeting acknowledged several key ASEAN LNSN activities conducted in 2025, including the virtual discussion with the pan-European research infrastructure ACTRIS on collaboration in nuclear techniques for PM2.5 characterization, and the ASEAN LNSN Webinar Series covering topics such as synchrotron applications, cyclotron technology, fusion energy research, LINAC-based inspection technologies, and Small Modular Reactors (SMRs). These activities aimed to promote knowledge exchange and strengthen research collaboration within the region.

The meeting also announced the election results for the ASEAN LNSN Governing Council for the 2026–2029 term. Professor Dr. Muhammad Rifai from the Republic of Indonesia was elected as Chair, while Professor Dr. Dung Ho from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam was elected as Vice Chair.

In addition, participants discussed the organization of the next ASEAN LNSN webinar, tentatively scheduled for late June or early July 2026, with a proposed focus on cultural heritage research. The discussion also highlighted ongoing regional collaboration in applying nuclear techniques and scientific infrastructure for cultural heritage studies and archaeological research.

The meeting concluded at 11.00 hrs. (GMT+7), reaffirming ASEAN LNSN’s commitment to enhancing regional cooperation in scientific infrastructure, nuclear technology, and human resource development across ASEAN member countries.
